The 18th “Nighttime Cherry Blossom Viewing” at the National Treasure Matsumoto Castle

  • DateApril 13th (Thu.) – April 20th (Thu.)

  • AdmissionFree admisson to the interior garden in the evening during the festival. (However, it is not possible to climb in the tower.) 
  • DetailsThe castle tower and the interior garden will be lit up.
    Performances of gagaku (Japanese classical music) with three instruments (sou, shakuhachi), and the flute, will be held in Tsukimi-yagura. Tea ceremony seats will be set in Honmaru Garden and there will be stalls of hanami dango (sweet rice dumplings) and the permanent shop too. Please come and see the festival.
  • RemarksTea seat ( ¥500 per seat / Urasenke style Tankokai for the first 4 days, Omotesenke style Domonkai for the last 4 days )
    Hanami dango (sweet rice dumplings) etc will be available for purchase (Matsumoto Kojokai)
    *Cherry blossoms are the most cherished and beloved flowers in Japan.Please refrain from touching the branches of Sakura trees.

The 10th “Corridor of the Light” – a row of cherry trees at Matusumoto Castle

Urasenke Tanko-kai Spring Tea Party

Spring Special Opening of Taiko-mon Gate to the public (in the Taiko-mon Gate tower)

  • DetailsTaiko-mon Gate was built in 1595 (Bunroku Era 4th year) . Drum Tower was also built on the stone wall which is located on the north side of Drum Gate, and acted as a signal of the time, visitors to the castle, and fire.
    Taiko-mon Gate was renovated in March 1999 and is open to the public 3 times a year in April, July, and October.

Shinpa Seizan Syle Outdoor Flower Arrangement Exhibition / Tea party – Anniversary of the municipal system of Matsumoto City

Sekishu Style Matsushiro Ikei kai Tea Party

  • DetailsA tea party will be held by Sekishu Style Matsushiro Ikei kai.

    Sekishu Style was passed down from Senno Rikyu’s eldest son (real son), Michiyasu, and Sosen Kuwayama, a warrior in the early Edo Era, whose chief disciple, Sekishu Katagiri, compiled both wabicha (simple tea) which was introduced by Rikyu and kizokucha (noble tea). After that, for over 200 years, till the end of the Edo Era, it was taught as daimyo (feudal lord)’s tea ceremony in various domains around Edo Castle.
